The promise of Invest in Baltimore lies in strategically combining economic development with poverty reduction. While all nine paths include elements of economic development, the Promoting Baltimore path most directly affects this crucial piece of the equation. By retaining and attracting citizens and businesses, Baltimore can develop the population necessary to a strengthened tax base and the businesses necessary to the jobs citizens need to thrive. 

A strengthened tax base can, in turn, improve services and—perhaps most significant—lead to a lower tax rate, permanently reducing an important obstacle to a full population. By growing and attracting businesses, Baltimore can ensure that its citizens can provide for themselves and those they love.

That’s why we have supported Baltimore Collegetown Network and Live Baltimore with grants from the Promoting Baltimore Path. Baltimore Collegetown Network strives to connect students at area colleges and universities with the city, so that more will adopt Baltimore as their hometown after graduation. Live Baltimore sells city living, promoting city neighborhoods to prospective homeowners within and beyond our region.

There is much more we could do, but the resources currently available for this path are scarce. Promoting Baltimore is a critical piece of BCF’s vision for the future.
