Diversity, with all its shades of meaning, is rapidly becoming a bellwether for excellence in America. Baltimore, in order to become a great city, must embrace and celebrate the racial and cultural differences of its people. The goal of the Diversity Path is to ensure that the future leadership of Baltimore reflects the richly diverse makeup of our city and region. Though at this time the Diversity Path is not actively distributing grants, the goals of the Diversity Path are reflected in all other paths of Invest in Baltimore. The Middle Grades Partnership, for instance, an Education Path initiative, equips academically promising middle school students with the skills they need to excel in our city’s most challenging high schools – the first step in a pathway to success for African American youth. BCF is planning to partner with Associated Black Charities in ABC’s More in the Middle initiative, designed to retain, attract, bring back, and develop an African American middle class in Baltimore City. BCF invites all who share our vision for this region to join us and Invest in Baltimore. We believe that no one path leads to our common goal, but that by investing strategically in many paths we can create a Baltimore with a growing economy in which all have the opportunity to thrive. BCFs grantmaking is built around these nine paths, one of which is Diversity.
