BWGC Committees

Members of the Circle can choose to serve on one or more of the following committees with the exception of the Nominating Committee and Steering Committee:

Communications Committee – develops the content and oversees the printing and mailing of the BWGC newsletter, The Circle, which is published twice a year to provide information to Circle members and the general public. The Communications Committee also oversees the web site, which is frequently updated, and includes information about BWGC, lists current members and awarded grants, provides committee descriptions, an event calendar, and answers to Frequently Asked Questions.

Education Committee – seeks to educate members about various issues affecting women and children in greater Baltimore and about the work of BWGC grantees. The committee arranges the programs and logistics for three Full Circle Meetings that are available to all BWGC members and invited guests. These programs usually include a presentation, followed by a question and answer session. The committee coordinates Briefing Breaks, during which BWGC grantees and BWGC members share experiences on a personal level in a small group setting, and it arranges Site Visits to grantee organizations.

Grants Committee –– reviews and updates the process for selecting grantee organizations each year, conducts the review and evaluation of grant proposals submitted to BWGC, and discusses ways to improve the substance and process of BWGC’s grantmaking. The Search Subcommittee works to continually enhance BWGC’s outreach to non-profits that fit within the mission of BWGC. The Documents Subcommittee reviews the grant application and forms BWGC uses to evaluate grant proposals. The Readers Subcommittee reviews grant proposals, conducts site visits, and recommends grant funding to the BWGC membership for a vote at the Annual Full Circle Meeting in May.

Membership/Outreach Committee – provides information to prospective members and welcomes new members, facilitating their participation in Circle activities and committees. The committee plans new member orientations during the year and an open house for members and prospective members in the fall of each year.

Nominating Committee – develops policies and procedures for the transition of leadership within the Circle and nominates the BWGC co-chairs and officers for consideration by the BWGC general membership. This committee is by appointment.

Post Grant Evaluation Committee – reviews and evaluates information received from BWGC grantees and interviews BWGC grantees during and after the grant period. The committee interviews grantees six months after they have received BWGC funding to see how they are progressing with implementing the projects supported by BWGC. After the grant period is over, the Committee ensures that all grantees submit a final report and that all BWGC funds were used as described in the approved grant proposal. All grantees are interviewed after the grant period with the goal of learning as much as possible about the factors that contribute to a project’s succeeding. This information will be tracked and shared with the members of BWGC.

Steering Committee – consists of BWGC co-chairs, officers and committee chairs and is responsible for developing policies that guide BWGC.
