Al Sanders Foundation for Music Studies Scholarship

Established to honor the memory of Al Sanders to celebrate his career with WJZ-TV and share his love of music, this scholarship is designated for students graduating from a  public high school in Baltimore City or one of the five surrounding counties with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, who intend to major in music and pursue a career in music after graduation from college.  Eligibility requirements include completing 75 hours of community service during high school. Average award size: $1,500


Artemis Scholarship

This scholarship is for young women graduating from a Baltimore City public high school with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher who wish to  attend a two or four year  college or university. Eligibility requirements include completing at least 75 hours of community service during high school. Average award size: $500 - $1,000 


Arthur W. Elder, II Scholarship

Established in memory of Arthur W. Elder II, a 1974 graduate of the former Lake Clifton High School, this scholarship is for a student who may not have lived up to his or her full potential in high school, but who wishes to pursue higher education.  Preference will be given to students graduating from Heritage High School, but this scholarship is open to students from any public or private high school in Baltimore City who has maintained a “C” average and has participated in high school athletics or other extra-curricular activities.  Eligibility requirements also include completing at least 75 hours of community service during high school. Average award size: $1,250


Baltimore City Retired Public School Employees Scholarship

Created by the Association of Baltimore City Retired Public School Employees, this scholarship is for students with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher graduating from a public high school in Baltimore City who intend to pursue a career in teaching.  Students must have completed at least 75 hours of community service during high school and plan to enroll as a degree candidate in a two-year or four-year college in Maryland. Average award size: $1,000


Charles R. “Dick” Ward Scholarship

Honors Dick Ward, who attended high school in the late 1940's.  Dick was a highly decorated athlete who also understood the importance of education.  In his years as a business owner in South Baltimore, he established himself as a community leader and mentor.  This  scholarship is designated for Digital Harbor High School students who have participated in the Building STEPS Program in their junior and senior years and ranked in the top 15% of their class.  Applicants should demonstrate leadership qualities through extracurricular activities or community service and plan to attend a four-year college or university, or plan to pursue an AA degree at a community college in Maryland and transfer to a four-year college or university. Average award size: $5,000


Christa McAuliffe Scholarship 

Established to honor the ideals and memory of teacher/astronaut Christa McAuliffe, this scholarship is designated for aspiring teachers.  The scholarship is open to Maryland residents graduating from any high school in the state with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, who plan to attend an accredited Maryland college or university with  an approved  teacher education program, planning to pursue a teaching career in the State of Maryland. Eligibility requirements also include completing at least 75 hours of community service during high school. Average award size: $1,000


Davis Family Scholarship

Davis Family Scholarships are awarded to outstanding Baltimore City public high school students selected from all of the applicants to the Baltimore Community Foundation Scholarship Program.  Average award size: $2,500


Digital Harbor High School Community Scholarship 

Established by residents of the South Baltimore Peninsula, this scholarship is for students graduating from Digital Harbor High School who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, demonstrate financial need and plan to attend a two or four-year school or enroll in a community college certificate program.  Eligibility requirements also include completing at least 75 hours of community service during high school. Average award size: $2,000


Ercole Family Nursing Scholarship

Established in 2011 for aspiring nurses by the Stephanie and Erwin Greenberg Fund, this scholarship is open to students graduating from any public, parochial or independent high school in Baltimore City or Baltimore County.  Applicants must demonstrate financial need, show participation in community service projects or volunteer activities, have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and intend to complete a LPN, RN or BS/RN degree in nursing at an accredited two or four-year college or university.  Recipients of the scholarship must submit a written report to BCF at the end of each year for which you receive the scholarship. Average award size: $3,000


GITEC Scholarship

The Government Information Technology Executive Council (GITEC) provides scholarships to students graduating from a Baltimore City public school with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above who plan to pursue a degree from a four-year college or university majoring in Information technology, engineering or computer  science.  Applicants must have demonstrated leadership qualities and have completed at least 75 hours of community service during high school. Average award size: $5,000


Harry Z. Isaacs Scholarship

Established by the late Harry Z. Isaacs, this scholarship is for the children of employees of I.C. Isaacs & Company and for graduates of Baltimore City public high schools with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Priority will be given to applicants who have a parent or guardian who is currently employed by I.C. Isaacs & Company and its subsidiaries. Eligibility requirements also include completing at least 75 hours of community service during high school. Average award size: $500 - $1,000


Irvin Ricardo Horne Scholarship

Established by family and friends in memory of Irvin Ricardo Horne, a social worker and religious man with a generous heart who was talented, well-educated and believed in the importance of a good education.  He was born and raised in Baltimore City and spent most of his college life at the University of Maryland, College Park. This scholarship is designated for male students graduating from a public, private or parochial high school in Baltimore City who plan to attend the University of Maryland, College Park.  Applicants must demonstrate commitment to community service and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Average award size: $5,000


Legg Mason’s Community Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Legg Mason Global Asset Management to provide two full tuition scholarships for eligible Baltimore City public high school graduates who wish to pursue their education at a four-year public institution in the state of Maryland. Eligibility requirements include the completion of at least 75 hours of community service during high school and a mandatory essay that explains why you are ready for college.  Students who maintain a 2.5 GPA as they work toward a college certificate or degree may receive up to $80,000 ($20,000 annually) of tuition, room and board.  Scholarship awards are to be used in the academic year immediately following the granting of the award.  This scholarship is renewable after the student’s first year of college.

 

Mildred M. Coughlin Scholarship

Named for a former principal of Western High School, this scholarship is for young women graduating from Western High School with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher who plan to attend a four-year liberal arts college or university. Eligibility requirements also include completing at least 75 hours of community service during high school. Average award size: $500 - $1,000 


One Step Up Associates Award

The One Step Up Associates Award is designed to help young women develop a skill or train for a profession in a two-year community college program, who without this "one step up" might not be able to pursue their education. Applicants must be graduating from a Baltimore City public high school with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and plan to enroll full-time in a two-year certificate or associate's degree program at an accredited community college. This scholarship may be used for tuition, books, registration fees and computers required for class. Eligibility requirements also include completing at least 75 hours of community service during high school. Average award size: $1,000


One Step Up College Scholarship

The One Step Up College Scholarship was established to make college possible for young women who have overcome significant challenges, and who without this "one step up" might not be able to pursue their education. The applicant for this award should show leadership qualities in her family, school or community rather than be at the top of her class academically. Applicants must have attended a Baltimore City public high school for four years with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and plan to enroll full-time at an accredited four-year college or university. This scholarship may be used for tuition, books, registration fees and computers required for class. Eligibility requirements also include completing at least 75 hours of community service during high school. Average award size: $10,000


Stephanie and Erwin Greenberg Community College Scholarship

This scholarship is designated for students who have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher who wish to pursue a certificate or associates degree program leading toward a specific vocation. It is open to students graduating from public, parochial or independent high schools in Baltimore City or Baltimore County who demonstrate financial need, have been active in their community and intend to complete a certificate or degree program from an accredited community college in the State of Maryland. Recipients of the scholarship must submit a written report to BCF at the end of each year for which you receive the scholarship. Average award size: $2,000


Walther H. Feldmann Scholarship

Established in honor of William R. King, a former principal of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, this scholarship is for students enrolled at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute who are in the top 25% of their graduating class of the "A" Course curriculum. Applicants must have demonstrated leadership qualities as evidenced by participation in extracurricular activities. Eligibility requirements also include completing at least 75 hours of community service during high school. Average award size: $1,500


WJZ - TV Jerry Turner Broadcast Scholarship

Established to honor the memory of Jerry Turner and celebrate his career in broadcast journalism at station WJZ-TV channel 13 in Baltimore, this scholarship is designated for Maryland residents graduating from a public high school in Baltimore City or one of the five surrounding counties with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher who plan to seek a degree in broadcast journalism from an accredited four-year college or university. Eligibility requirements also include completing at least 75 hours of community service during high school. Average award size: $1,500


Wolman Family Scholarship

The Wolman Family Scholarship is offered to an outstanding Baltimore City public high school student selected from all of the applicants to the Baltimore Community Foundation Scholarship Program.  Average award size: $5,000

Dreams do come true: Our Playground at Stadium Place, rebuilt by determined volunteers and generous donors after the original was destroyed by arson. The work was supported by a fund at BCF.
