The Family Recovery Program, initiated with private sector funding through the fund at BCF, provides highly effective drug treatment to parents of young children who are entering foster care specifically because of their parents’ addiction. Parents’ participation in recovery is closely monitored, and children whose parents commit to and progress toward recovery are reunited promptly with their birth families. When parents fail to commit to recovery, children are released for adoption rather than lingering in the foster care system. A portion of the savings realized through shortened stays in foster care is reinvested in treatment for more parents.
This fund supports Neighbors in Deed, the Baltimore site of the Community Experience Partnership, a national initiative which aims to connect older adults with opportunities to serve the greater good. BCF is coordinating the initiative, which is supported by Atlantic Philanthropies and local funders.
The Fund supports OSI’s work to combat drugs and crime by expanding the availability of drug addiction treatment, reducing school suspensions and expulsions, and providing ex-offenders with services such as drug addiction treatment and workforce training to facilitate a successful reentry into society. The Fund also supports OSI’s highly successful Baltimore Community Fellows program, which awards paid 18-month fellowships to individuals dedicated to working directly with Baltimore’s underserved communities.
