[June 2014] One year ago, Matthew Reeds won the Legg Mason Scholarship from the Baltimore Community Foundation. Funded by the Legg Mason Charitable Foundation, this scholarship is an $80,000 award, providing up to $20,000 per year for up to four years.
Today, Matthew has just completed his freshman year in the Graves School of Business and Management Honors Program at Morgan State University, where he was named “Most Outstanding First Year Student.”
This summer, he will be interning at Legg Mason, where he has been enthusiastically welcomed. Legg Mason Vice President Auburn Bell says, “We recognized Matthew right away as someone with the desire to take full advantage of the scholarship. He shows us that by delivering 4.0 GPAs for both semesters of his freshman year. We invited him to speak at our all-staff holiday party in December, and he was inspiring. We are glad to welcome him to our team this summer.”
Matthew had distinguished himself in high school at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, winning not only the Legg Mason Scholarship but also being named the Ray of Hope Scholar: Northrop Grumman/STEM Scholar by Black Professional Men, Inc., and winning the Lt. William R. King National Honor Society Service Award from the National Honor Society.
