Disaster Relief: How you can help
November 07, 2017
Each year, millions of people throughout the country and across the globe are faced with task of rebuilding following natural disasters. Our donors often ask us for direction on the best way to provide assistance during disaster relief efforts. Here are a few suggestions:
When disaster strikes in the United States, we recommend you look to the local community foundation for information about how to help. Community foundations have deep community knowledge and a commitment to permanence. You can find a community foundation just about anywhere in the U.S. using the Community Foundation Locator. Look for the national standards seal to identify an accredited community foundation.
Baltimore is home to a number of national and international charitable organizations that provide disaster relief. We recommend you explore options available from Catholic Relief Services, Lutheran World Relief.
Recent disasters, including Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017, have severely damaged many regions of the Caribbean. For disaster relief for this current crisis, please visit Hispanics in Philanthropy's HIPGive initiative.
