Why Not Try Public Transportation? – Join Dan Rodricks on the Bus
July 18, 2014
Earlier this month, Sun columnist Dan Rodricks divulged that he had begun taking Baltimore buses again for the first time in many years. He says that overall he’s had positive experiences and compliments the drivers for being friendly, excellent at pulling up to the curb to help passengers get on and off the bus and—most important—being mostly on time.
In his column, Rodricks gives kudos to the Central Maryland Transportation Alliance, a BCF initiative, for their continued push to improve the existing transportation system and to add more transportation options throughout the region. He also called attention to one of the Transportation Alliance’s most effective programs, the “Rate Your Ride” survey of bus and train riders conducted three years ago.
Rate Your Ride allowed transit riders to provide on-the-spot feedback by text message about the quality of their transit experience. The program was so successful that the MTA took over the program in 2012 and continues to manage it. The input received through Rate Your Ride has played a significant role in the MTA’s recent major announcement of improvements to bus routes and schedules throughout the Baltimore area.
Roderick’s column encourages Baltimore residents to give MTA buses a try. We do too.
