Announcing Pre-K Expansion Grants and New Judy Center
July 28, 2014
The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) announced $4.3 million in Pre-Kindergarten Expansion Grants to 24 providers throughout the state, as well as the agreement between BCF, MSDE and Baltimore City Public Schools to fund the opening of a new Judy Center in Cherry Hill.
By helping to shape and ultimately to pass this legislation to expand access to pre-K across the state, BCF has taken another step in its goal to have 90 percent of Baltimore five-year-olds well prepared to enter school by 2017.
Along with our partners at MSDE we are celebrating not only the expansion of pre-K classrooms in Baltimore and across the state, but we are also celebrating the new Judy Center to be opened in Cherry Hill, thanks to the Ravens and M&T Bank. Judy centers are early childhood resource centers which provide comprehensive services for children under age five and their families. The Ravens and M&T have committed$165,000 per year for three years to bring a Judy Center to Cherry Hill. Read the full press release here.
