Grant and Scholarship Overview

We award grants to nonprofit organizations and scholarships to students from the hundreds of charitable funds that make up the Baltimore Community Foundation. Generous donors have established or contributed to funds at BCF to make these grants and scholarships possible.

Currently we are focusing our discretionary resources in the areas of education and neighborhoods

Many of the grants distributed by BCF each year comes from donor-advised funds at the recommendation of the fund advisor. Most donor-advised funds are not open to requests for funding. BCF also distributes grants from funds that are restricted for specific purposes and general causes, including funds established to benefit public agencies.

See our Grants page for a list of all grant programs that are open for applications, or browse a complete list of 2016 grants.

Volunteer grant review makes a comeback in BCF’s Neighborhood Grants Program

In September 2017, a group of BCF donors, staffers, professional advisors and nonprofit leaders met to review grant applications for the most recent round of Neighborhood Grants Program applications. It was the first time in several years that volunteers participated in the review process.

Back to school in 2017: BCF helps donors provide scholarships to area students

It’s almost time for courses to start at colleges and universities across the nation. This year, as it has for decades, BCF helped donors provide scholarships to area students going to college. This year, 10 scholarship funds offered scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $80,000 to individual students from high schools in the Baltimore region.
